Designers: Jean-Paul Gaultier (and whoever else isn't afraid to put a man in a skirt!), Heatherette is quite good, DSquared2, D&G (as long as the "D&G" isn't emblazoned all over the fucking thing--tacky. . .), Flux at Neo makes really great pants, my friend Garrett is a genius--nothing the guy can't do, and www.sirengraphix.com is brilliant, and Patricia Field--sometimes. Some of her pieces makes it look like the person got dressed after being struck by lightning. I really don't obsess about this shit. I like what I like and appreciate anyone with their own style. I concider anyone that can throw different things together, look good, and turn heads a "designer". They designed the outfit didn't they? It's on THEIR back, isn't it? And you just can't beat used clothes, shit you rummage through and just FIND. You're almost assured someone else won't have it. And you can't beat the shit that you make or "szhooszh" yourself--its a definate someone else won't have it. Someone once said that the true definition of style is when someone stops you and asks where you got it--never tell them, though!! Be original!
Authors: Poe, Poppy Z. Brite, Stephen King, and Jeff Lindsay (the guy that writes the "Dexter" books that the Showtime show is based on).
Books: There's a great Poe anthology I have; anything Stephen King but the short story "Secret Window, Secret Garden" is one of my favorites; "Lost Souls" is my favorite Poppy Z. Brite book (a little on the cheesie side, about vampires but kind of erotic); and "Darkly Dreaming Dexter" by Jeff Lindsay.
Bands: Cannot live without The Cure, Smiths/Moz, Depeche Mode, Talking Heads, Devo--basically anything Neo plays on Thursday nights! And of course Nine Inch Nails, Sisters Of Mercy, Bauhaus, Revolting Cocks, KMFDM, Siouxie, Thrill Kill, This Mortal Coil, Gitone Demone, etc
